NEHEMIAH NATION-BUILDING NETWORK (NNN)
PREAMBLE
The current chaotic situation in the country in terms of government’s inability to lead the nation out of its economic, inequality, racialized, poverty-stricken, unemployment, crime, political unrest, corruption, maladministration, immoral and lawless crises demands that its citizens realise that they have to stand up and stand together to avoid a complete disaster.
Justice Malala, the renowned political journalist and commentator captured the crisis facing South Africa (even before the sacking of finance minister Nene) in his book, “We have now begun our descent – How to stop South Africa losing its way”. He warned that South Africa is on the brink of ruin and that unless all South Africans of all walks of life do not wake up and act, they will soon find their country has been stolen. His plea is for the rise of a new leadership ethos providing strong visionary leadership of high moral values; giving our children and youth quality education from primary school to the universities, preparing and educating the next generation of quality leaders; dealing with the country’s massive unemployment problem by creating wealth through entrepreneurship; and addressing the nation’s extremes of inequality and poverty by rolling back the legacy of apartheid’s heinous policies.
While political parties have assessed their recent municipal election results and are already busy strategizing for the 2019 elections in less than 3 years from now, Christians, who are making up about 80% of the nation’s population and especially its Evangelical Christians who hold to the Biblical values and norms must now take the lead in bringing about a new sense of destiny to our beloved country. They also are the largest civil movement in society to bring this about, if indeed they are serious to become “salt” and “light” in the earth, positively influencing all strata of society.
Furthermore, our country has an increasing youth majority, becoming the next generation’s electorate who must be properly guided as they will be dictating the future direction of the country. If correctly prepared by the churches, they will be best suited to change the political landscape initially through the polls. They will then eventually have to take over the reign of the country and thus have to be prepared today as the next generation of leaders in government and society in general, and this ought to be the responsibility of the churches who has direct access to these children and youth. We will fail our children’s children if we don’t (Pro. 13:22).
In the unfortunate absence, to my knowledge, of an already clearly defined Christian initiated national plan of action, as well as taking cognisance of the country’s National Development Plan (NDP) Vision for 2030 dated November 2011 and which, to my knowledge, has still not taken off five years later, it is incumbent on the church to decide to become activists in rebuilding our nation as a matter of urgency.
The proposed NEHEMIAH NATION-BUILDING NETWORK (NNN) is intended to spark that interest amongst the country’s Christian community to now lead the way of nation building. Let us for once be “the head and not the tail”.
TO WHOM IS THIS PROPOSED ‘NEHEMIAH NATION-BUILDING NETWORK’ ADDRESSED?
